Capacitor

Dumb question but I’m switching out my amp to a bigger size. I currently have a capacitor hook up to the current one. Can I just unhook the cap from the old amp and hook it up to the new one or do I need to discharge it?

make sure to discharge it before you disconnect if from the amp. You can do this with a light bulb. If you don't discharge it and short it to ground, you will see one heck of a spark and possibly cause some serious damage.

after you reconnect it, it would be best to recharge it. Again, you can use a light bulb. If you don't, it will spark like heck when you reconnect the battery.

What capacitor do you have? Might be worth looking into whether it's helping or hurting. A car audio pro (Steve Meade?) ran tests of amp power output with and without some inexpensive caps, and it turned out the inexpensive ones were actually knocking watts off on the top end.

I suggest discharging with a light bulb or resistor vs a screwdriver.
