Thumbs down

Let trolls be trolls. The only way advice can be harmful is if someone follows it. DIY comes with risk. If someone doesn't have enough knowledge to know the basic safety risks of a project and follows the first post they see, then that's on them.

Reputation score is only used as a source of pride and competition. Someone with a million thumbs up from the thunderdome doesn't necessarily know jack about car audio.

I don't think we should ban people for being incorrect. If that were the case, most of the people on this forum would be gone, because most people on this forum don't understand basic electronics and parrot things they read online.

The solution to dislike-wars is to disable dislikes between ignored users. That way either party can end it. Another option is to lock threads after a period of inactivity (but then the goat would get bored).

"He who is without sin may cast the first stone."
I say the wrong thing sometimes. When I don't know, I post what I can or not at all. I try to not take it personal, and I try to never be the first one to disrespect. (I like to think I have a professional attitude, with a dirty mouth).

1. There is a difference between being right 98% of the time, vs 2% of the time.
2. They jumped on responding to every thread they could, many times with dangerous misinformation. They didn't need to be the first post to respond but they were, (many people online ARE just searching for a quick answer), and I still think some of that BS was intentionally wrong.
3. The sorority sluts from alabama state, sounded more coherent after an open bar, then most of the cluster fudge mash of madlibs they were posting.

It was the "forum mindset" that was relaxing on it. It was getting to where it was all such ridiculous nonsense, we were laughing it off.

Just curious, In hindsight: after seeing how ridiculous it got, do you still think that? On a personal level; after watching all of that, do you still think, F all the newcomers for not knowing the answers to their own questions? Let him post whatever he wants, and wait for the chaos? Do you feel no "social responsibility" to the board you come and spend time on, and engage with?

My late grandmother used to say, "smile and write the check", which means "pay others to do things you cannot do or don't want to do". NEC is written by NFPA because electricity is dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, but it's tamable if you understand it. Bottomline: don't do anything yourself if you can't afford to fix the worst case scenario fuckup.

This forum is still a shitshow. There are way too many idiots parroting things they heard online. Everything from "gain isn't volume" to "alternator over battery", when they don't know the concept of either. That's not a shot at you; it's cliches that any smart person can tell are catch phrases. I had a discussion with "sparkeded" on youtube (formerly "showtimespl") in the comment section. He couldn't differentiate between gain and volume.

The forum needs a section devoted to baseline knowledge and proven facts. Posts like "which sub is better" are subjective and deserve to be argued; posts such as "do I have enough electrical power" should require personal experience over theory.

To your questions:
YES, I absolutely compel people to do their own research.
YES, I absolutely think everyone who does their own work is at the fate of their own hand.
YES, I absolutely believe in the freedom of speech.
YES, I absolutely believe everyone is capable of reading and understanding everything I say.

Stickies, just like every other forum. Each section could get a sticky thread, with a few long posts, and it would in depth explain most of the newcomer questions. I brought that up before, and wasn't just shot down, I was told not to do it; because even though it would really help people and clean up the forums, it would "reduce the traffic", and that's how they get paid.

We still have some sticky threads. The issue is many of them are 10-20 years old and haven’t been replied to in 10-20 years. New users would see this super old thread and assume it wasn’t relevant or outdated and not read it. You’re welcomed to write a new sticky thread on a relevant topic…

I would think if we wanted to do this to help everyone. My suggestion would be to create (probably a few) rough draft thread(s) first in the lounge. We could collaborate on information from the dozen or so regulars, (that I think would be willing to contribute), we could brainstorm, and add to it, get it worded right and organized, then someone cleans it up, THEN posts it, and stickies it.

Stickies, yes, but also tech articles, calculators, wiring diagrams, and other common categories and/or topics. therangerstation.com is a very organized, informative site.

I didn't realize you were part of the staff here.

I'm disappointed that was your only takeaway from my post. You had two months to think.

Being a "regular" doesn't indicate any level of knowledge or competence. Most regulars are parrots. That's how bullshit clichés become "common knowledge".

There are a handful of people here that really know their shit, and a thousand others who don't know shit, which is why I say anyone who takes the first response as gospel deserves the outcome.

Number 1 rule of the internet: Whoever gets mad first loses. I can't cure your insecurity.

MEN, don't act like petty teenage girls like you do.

Why are you so riled up?
