Again if speaks to motive, I think it's of importance. Ie in the case of the Charlottesville car attack, his identity (as a white supremist) certainly seems to germane to the story and speaks to motive, state of mind, etc. The Nashville case has been more hush, hush, but I do find interesting to note that a trans person attacked a religious school and somebody associated with the school was/had "counseled" him/her. I have to wonder if the counselor either said or did something to set the shooter off. OTOH, bank robber shoots 3 people in botched bank job - don't really care if he was a radical black Islamist or white supremist, etc.
