I don't think the extreme of the left or right have necessarily grown...they're definitely loud enough to give the impression they're of the majority opinion...I really believe people vote for party based on the appearance of what each stands for without actually getting to know candidates....and politicians are eager to play on anything that drives votes...

Agreed. The anti-gun crowd votes DNC even though the DNC has never passed any meaningful gun restrictions. Biden's all about drilling now that gas prices leapt up, but the greenies will still vote for him.
