75% of what I say when RobGMN is in the conversation is to literally mess with him. Sometimes the information is factual but most of the time I will post whatever because I know he can't control himself and he must respond to any and every thing. I tried to tell the guy a long while back, I waste his time on purpose. Why not? With a guy like him he deserves it. I could say I bought a 1982 280ZX because I wanted a nice little sports car he would respond with you didn't buy a sports car you bought an economy car and he'd give me some kind of Googled response to the history of the car assuming that I know nothing of the car. I have owned several 280zx's but that wouldn't sway him.
240-280Z were the sports cars, decreasingly so with each new model. The 280ZX was a velour abomination that was heavier than any Z ever was, and the least horsepower until they Turbocharged it. The “X” stood for “luxury”. Unless you had the very first run (1979 - no T-Tops), you REALLY owned a dog.
The only thing that made the ZX any better was the size, which made it a little easier to drive due to reduced trailing throttle oversteer (same with the early 2+2 Zs, but a lot of them were automatic).
Did you have a turbo?

I had a 77 280. Stock except for front spoiler, 1/4 coil cut off the springs, polished & ported head, header, 2 1/2” exhaust, steering wheel. Fun little car. Except the AC was dead. Got T-boned.
Replaced it with a 79. That one got leather seats from a Mitsu Conquest, springs, header, exhaust.
Not quite as fun.

I did.

Curious... how did you fit a 4cyl header onto a 2.8L inline 6? Also, was it a Mitsubishi Conquest or Starion? Pretty sure Chryslers version was the Conquest but maybe I don't know anything about cars either.

Who put a 4 cylinder header on a 2.8?
It was either a Conquest or a Starion. Customer car. He painted the car gold, and put some inexpensive racing seats in it.
I bought his b/c they had the “infinite adjustable” seat back (a rotating knob that must have been like a worm screw) to get the seatback just right.
Took a bit of welding to modify the brackets, but it worked out nicely.

The seats were the only things from the Starion/Conquest. The rest was the same as my totaled Z. I might even have reused the headers. Not sure.

I actually found in my toolbox the other day the part my 77 needed to have working AC. Still in original box.
Hoarded. Prob worth some money.

You used comas in your list of things that went on the `79. I had to razz you. I knew what you meant about the header. All three of the ZX's I owned had working A/C. I was going to swap the transmission and R200 diff from my Turbo into my `82 auto... don't really remember why I didn't. I just remember not having any of my Z's and ended up with my brothers Dodge Shadow ES that I later traded him for his 1967 Ford Fairlane.

I’m in a coma after all this snow.

It was a shame they went with the POS 3spd auto ***** in the Turbo. The turbo gave it some life, and the transmission took it away.
