Notice the bold part. It means what you paid at any given time, WITH NO ADJUSTMENT FOR INFLATION. Dummy.

I don't get the issue with averages. A discussion about how Biden is or isn't affecting gas prices has no meaning without averages.

As a matter of fact local pricing is a pretty useless metric, it's gotta be the national average. That would be like me crediting Obama with low gas prices years ago when what really happened is there was some problem with pipeline downline of our region creating a nice abundance of gas in Denver/Metro. Or conversely, the region that was negatively impacted blaming Obama. Hard to have an intelligent conversation if one doesn't even understand the proper metric to use....

But if you're blaming Biden and in particular putting the harm it's doing to the economy on his door step then national averages in particular are of utmost import. Local prices can be out of sync with national trends due to pipeline issues, port issues, refinery problems, or other regional issues.

The only thing a national average does for me is let me know if the governments have pissed people off and the price of gas is about to go up near me. When I was in Ga paying less than $2 a gallon I was saying to myself "I am glad I don't live in Cali." when their gas was over $4 a gallon.
