4 weeks is the benchmark for getting crude oil out of the ground, to the refiners, held in tanks to be shipped, loaded onto trucks and taken to the gas stations.

So what the people selling gas are doing is making the government a much higher profit ahead of time on product the gas station wont receive for a month or so. High gas prices are so great for our greedy government huh. When the government makes this much money on gas it's hard to see how they outspend the money they take in from everything else.

Tell us more about the "illegal" sales of oil from the SPR and how they are not allowed to sell oil on the international market.
Tell us more about the drilling/extraction permits that are granted before the land is leased.
Tell us more about how supply and demand don't control pricing.

WTF are you talking about? The gov't doesn't participate in the profit taking. Do you not understand that the US is a capitalist for profit economy??? When Exxon's profits go up, the govt's "profits" don't go up, the govt's profits remain at zero because the gov't was never making profits in the first place.

The gas stations make what... $0.01 - $0.05 per gallon of gas sold. The government takes like $0.65 a gallon in taxes. That's $0.65 a gallon profit on money they didn't have to work for.
