Yet another alternator whine post… I need serious (mental) help

Hey guys. I need some help. I’ve been battling alternator whine for several months. Basic rundown:

Android 10 inch head unit (wanted it for GPS app capabilities, noise was present with OEM head unit as well)
Kicker 4 channel speaker amp
Kicker mono sub amp
Alpine type s speakers all the way around
Alpine type r sub

Running power directly from battery
Ground for both amps is to a clean chassis bolt for the rear seat. Took a multimeter to the hot on the amp to the ground with engine off and it read 12.46 volts steady. Same with subwoofer amp

What I’ve tried:
Noise isolator before and after RCA’s
Tried different RCA’s
Tried running RCA’s outside of vehicle
I’ve also tried taking the radio ground to the metal behind the dash as well. No luck.

Noise is not present with no RCA’s connected to amp. As soon as I hook up an rca cable to the amp the noise immediately comes back. Even if the rca is completely outside the vehicle. Even with a nice brand new shielded set.

Vehicle is a jeep gladiator. People with similar setups report no issues. Only one other instance on the forums with this issue and it was fixed with an isolator.

I’m running out of ideas and I’m ready to pull my hair out. I know my equipment isn’t the best; I wanted something better than factory as my money goes into the overland and off-road capabilities more than into audio.

Thanks everyone!

Agreed very possible on those Jeeps they are known for that issue. Even my Jeep GC was like that ran a dedicated ground and it was fine.

Try running a dedicated ground from the head unit to someplace in the back of the dash instead of just using the wiring harness one. Those androids are known for those issues vs a quality head unit like Pioneer or Kenwood or Alpine or Sony.

Pioneer used to have major ground issues. Remember that ****

Yeah I know a lot of people that had that issue but somehow it wasn't as bad with Pioneer as it was with the Alpine and Eclipse head units I used to have. But like you said tons of people had that issue and the dedicated ground was the way to go.

This Pioneer DEH-80PRS I did a dedicated ground regardless. I know in my dad's '06 Explorer I put in a Kenwood KDC-X998 while it would cause a ground whine in the '99 Jeep GC I had in his there was no whine so it kinda shocked me as he just wanted a CD deck that worked as the Ford OEM broke as usual.

No I mean back in the day when you had to wrap the wire around the rca outputs and ****. I know someone here has to remember that

One way to check things is to get a cheap $5 RCA to AUX splitter at Walmart, plug some headphones in, and see if you can hear the whine from the RCA's coming from the head unit. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Audio-Sp...LWOjj3ZmkweGs6aPLNIaAqVpEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Then plug an AUX to RCA cord into your phone and each amp. Play music directly from your phone to the amp.

If you hear the noise from your head unit with headphones, it's isolated there.
If you hear noise through your amps, that's your problem.

If you hear noise out of both, you have lots of issues.
If you hear noise out of neither independently, there's an issue with signal through the RCA's interacting between them. This can be caused by running RCA's along side power wires.

I think you will be just fine to be honest. Id run it and check it after hammering on it quite a bit and check the temp on the wire by hand to see...

Sometimes the sound gets a bit lower, then gets normal again, only listening to FM radio. It does not do this when streaming music via wired Apple...
