Amp for Dayton HO 12"

Hello, I'm getting a sub for my car and I need an amp. The sub I'm looking at is the Dayton Audio RSS315HO-44 12" Its dual 4-ohm voice coils

Since it's DVC I'd need an amp that runs around 700rms at 2 ohm load. Is that correct? My budget for the amp is $200, but if that can't be done I'm willing to go higher as I understand you get what you pay for. My main priority is a reliable setup that can handle the power. Idc about blasting the roof off of buildings I just want good sq and that big boomy 808 to sound how its supposed to. Anybody running a Dayton HO 12"? If so what setup?

Also, if I theoretically ran an amp that put out 1000w rms at 2ohm would that not work because it's too powerful for the sub or is having a surplus of rms power totally fine? Any amp recommendations or advice on what to look for and where? My total budget for both amp and subwoofer is $350-$500.
I was thinking of going ported enclosure from what I've read, probably around 1.25 ft cubed. Any recommendations? I'm new to all this so I know nothing about tuning and subsonic filters and all that stuff. I just want the best possible sound for my budget.
Any help is appreciated and thank you for taking the time out your day to help me.

I think your only option is going to be a Taramps MD1200 2 ohm. No having an amp that does more than 700 watts at 2 ohms is not a problem. It’s a very good idea to have headroom to combat voltage drop and impedance rise.

I recommended the Taramps cause it’s a good amp and in your budget. I’ve had 11 Taramps amps and never had an issue.

If you don’t want Taramps.
Kicker CXA1200
JL audio JX1000.

Fs. Do u have any recommendations for an amp that could power that sub? How much ideally should I spend for a not crappy amp? Thanks.
Look up taramps md 1800.1 amp dynos on youtube and tell me if its crappy or not.... Does well over its rated power. Totally shits on everything else in its price range. Even the jl and kicker amps mentioned.

After doing some research I found some saying the Taramps don't sound very good, and I'm a bit concerned with reliability as It's a cheaper product. Will I notice a significant difference in sq if I went with the $300 JL JX1000 over the $180 Taramps? If I'm only running 700w rms to my sub - even though the taramps can handle 1000w rms - would I not have to worry as much about it crapping out on me since I'm not maxing it out? I'm someone who spends a lot of time in their car listening to music so It would get a good amount of use. I'm willing to pay more for better sq + reliability, but if there isn't much of a difference the Taramps would be the way to go.

They are cheaply made. Some amps should have 1/0 power/ground but they cut corners I think the manual says 5 gauge. An oversized 4awg don’t fit I had to use a ferrule. Adjustment knobs feel cheap and move around. Too small of footprint for the power they put out.

I doubt you will hear any difference between the Chinese Kicker/JL vs the Brazilian Taramps. I run a Taramps dsp 3k in my "SQ" car and love it. If you had a Dual 2 ohm subwoofer it would open up a ton of options.

You could look into the US Acoustics Mike 1500 as well and run it at 2 ohms. I just like having plenty of power head room to combat impedance/box rise.

I’m not really in a position to give advice like Jeff or pop but I’ve had my Taramps for 2 almost 3 years. Still going strong with no issues. Had my 3K.1, 800.4, 400.4, 1200.4 etc

The JL JX is already outdated as they renamed the line JD. For $300 I’d much rather have the US Acoustics Mike (which I do).

If you do have to go JL like all the other newbies with full wallets, go to creative audio and at least buy a refurb and use the discount code new10 for 10% off

Lowering the impedance will also lower the speakers motor control, or damping, in physics no free lunch exists. It’s all give and take.
