Adding HP, W/ a twist....

getting back on topic...

I'm with the turbocharger suggestion.. diesel engines LOVE turbines. There's a reason why the previous owner removed the darn turbo.

Oh, and you might want to stick that ***** in your exhaust, might give you a bit more compression in the exhaust outlet. (not all straightflow pipes are beneficial. Don't believe? remove it and try a test. Sure, it SOUNDS fast, but your time drops like a mofo...)

Ok fellas i used to own a 1997 dodge 2500 4x4 cumins turbo diesel i done quite a bit of tweaking to it was sitting right at 400+ RWHP and 950+ ft lbs TQ...I sold it to start college again. Anywho first off you are gonna want to get a turbo back on that thing and a intercooler if possible you will need a boost gage and a EGT gage( Exhaust gas temperature gage) This to monitor your turbo boost and exhaust temps. Exhaust temps can get out of hand quick. You want the most straight through exhaust possible straight piped is best. Diesels are not like gas engines they dont need backpressure...not even for the turbo! So far you will need gages # 1 on the list, then ripp off the stock exhaust, then find a good turbo and innercooler..however you need more fuel to use that extra air from your turbo other wise the turbo wont do much. So you will either have to turn your fuel pump up(not sure how on a VW) or have it done and injectors would be a good idea. Then if that still isnt enough go with propane then if still not enough add nitrous! Oh and i can promise you your VW doesnt have a computer! Any you can email me i would love to help more also do some searchs on yahoo and stuff for preformance parts!

I got the turbocharger, I still need a fuel pump. Unless I get a new engine then I'll be searching for a turbo diesel pump. After that I think I'll be trying for a cold air intake, exhaust (with muffler!) and intercooler. I couldnt stand having a straight through pipe (way to freaking loud), and no propane or nawwwwz. This is a daily driver. I just want to mod it enough that the engine doesnt hit its top RPMs while doing the speed limit. Plus I wanted to make it fly every now and again... would I need those gauges if I was just reving it up a bit, or if I was pushing the pedal a little harder then normal?

I know gages are really important in the diesel pickup world maybe not so much on the VW's i am not sure but they are fairly cheap and easy to do and they look cool! Your main thing will be exhaust and intake and fuel pump. So long as you have a good free flowing exhaust, real goo cold air intake, a solid turbo (intercooler prefered) and a good pump you will get that puppy goin good! Diesels are easy to mod all you have to remember is more air + More fuel = more power!!! So anytime you give it more turbo boost or air make sure you give it more fuel! Any questions dont hesitate to aske me!!
