Video playback is possible using the iPod, or various disk formats (DVD, VCD, etc.), but I am almost certain that you cannot play videos off of USB drives.

If you haven't already, I would recheck your programming. The TR-7 comes from the factory with the Alpine bypass scheme, so an initial programming should not have been necessary. That said, you may have undone the factory settings when you installed the unit.
