bringing us to my second dilema

i have the x-over split at 200 one channel and 50 the other.

when i turn everything u it's not nearly as loud (and cuts out at high volume) than when i have everything all the way up on one channel and down on the other

????

We can't tell you. It's different for every system. We can't just say "turn you gain to 1/4 and leave it there". You'd have to read and learn in the stickies in the "amplifier" section of this forum. It tells you how to set your gains correctly. As far as crossovers go, tune it to what sounds good to you. Just remember that you can only use one so if your deck has a crossover, then adjust that and leave the crossover at the amplifier to full range. I'm pretty sure by the way you're explaining it, your sub is not wired to a stable load.
