Your opinion on the latest cloning issue?

You hear about that group, Cloneaid (I think thats how it was spelled..), they have 2,000 people on the waiting list to be cloned or their DNA to be taken, at $200,000 each.

Anyway, one of the doctors there says he was abducted by aliens and shown that we started our civilization being created in labs by a greater force outside this world...

lol, crazy.

Boy I don't know how many times I've wished I had a 90 year old guys knowledge when I was 16...maybe this will happen someday.

What's your thoughts on this? Ethical; Unethical; Or HEY, why the hell not.?

I think it's just downright dangerous to have this ability.. Lets look at a few things..

Over population.. The planet is already over run with humans as it is, why create more people than we need to?

Genetic engieneering, bad bad bad.. Ever see Gattica? (I think that's the one).. where people are genetically designed by their parents? tailored to a certian 'life'?.. Someone mentioned 'making ppl to clean sh**'.. hmm, you would have to make someone pretty dumb to not dislike that, but do we really need more dumb people in the world? I think not.. And, the opposite side.. physical/mental giants.. The government would want super soldiers more than normal people.. remove fear, increase strength, sight, hearing, etc.. Then, you have the rich guys.. thinking they will live forever if you clone them.. but it doesn't work that way.. part of who you are is what you have been through.. So, just having the same genes isn't gonna make you the same person, not by a long shot..

I personally don't believe in it for a variety of reasons.

If anyone here has taken any form of psychology, you should know that a person is a mixture of nature and nurture. You are shaped as a person by your genes as well as your life experience. By cloning a person or persons, you may reproduce their same level of aptitude as well as the physical appearance of the original person but what about their personality? You can lay the foundation for a person but what exactly will they become? Just because you clone your dead mother does not mean she will be the same woman who gave birth to you and raised you.

Does a replica of a person have the same rights as anyone else? Everyone argues that you could grow a clone of yourself in case you needed one organ or another but they never take into account that this is basically cutting up another healthy human being because you bred them for your own use. This is comprable to breeding and raising children to work in factories. I believe it would be called a sadistic form of slavery if they were not given the title of "clones" because "human beings" would acknowledge humanity(little bit of poetic license there).

The theory of the world turning into "Gattica" is plausible. It already works with the likes of dogs, cats, and other animals. You can easily dictate the course of any species by keeping those exhibiting the traits desired while eliminating the rest. This can be accomplished(to an extent) over the span of a half dozen generations(there was a study on this that I did actually read but don't ask for a link 'cause it was in a college psych textbook and I sold it off). Domesticating farm animals is the same exact thing but once again, putting it on the level of humans dictates that new words are created and more ******** is added to offset that analogy.

If you want to venture into religious or philosopy, does the person have a soul? If so, what happens to this person when an exact genetic blueprint of them is made? Since this is a one-for-one copy, then they are identical and possess the same eccense. If you argue that you can't pass your soul to this clone then does he/she exist as only a shell of yourself? You have to ask those questions and others before even beginning with the scientic ones.

I'm sure I have some more arguments but that is all I could think of off the top of my head. People should wise up to these nuts. Unethinical is only the beginning of this research. It's not in the name of science that this is happening; it is literally a minority of religious fanatics that mascarade as scientists to fulfill their own agenda as well as that of their "beliefs." Science is not the enemy but rather a rampant disregard of ethics to acheive a goal that is neither beneficial to the general populous nor mainstream science(as of yet...gotta throw in that kicker).

The reason I mentioned **** cleaners is so tha "real" or created by nature hum ans can live easier more trouble free lives. So basically with how it would look with everyonbe having their own personality and everything there would be no "humans" that would love **** cleaning so therefore IMO Cloning wouild be incorrect.

Hersey, you make so me extremly strong point there man. Especially with mentioning soulds and how peole have their own personalities. People justa wen't ment to be cloned. If we were evrytime someone lost a finger that finger would grow into another person like some animals do. But we don't do that. We must procreate, and that is what keeps humans humans.

Think of it this way: Driving downtown with your wife, going into a big factory like building, filling out a form of what you want your baby to be like...come back in a few months and hand over your Visa.

Well heres another thing. If we go to clooning of a child from 2 parents or however they opt to do it, how do we know if our spouce is cheating?? Sure there are other ways but this is a proof is in tha pudding" deal. Also this would allow them to implant tracking devices in our children like you can an animal. yes this prevents theft of your child but it also takes away from secrecy that everyone is usedto having nowadays.
