xxx15 and xxx18..

Hopefully i'll have a XXX18 coming my way in a week. I was just wondering how the 18 compared to the 15 in terms of spl and sq. Also why does the cone and dustcap look different. personally i like the look of the 15 inch cone.

The 18" is HUGE. I just got a 15", and comparing it to my old Phoenix Gold 15"s, its a complete difference. Makes those pg's look like little mids or something. Are you buying the 18 from a person, or from RE? Last I checked, they were out of 18" baskets until the end of the month.

Well an 18 requires such a huge box... because the sub is huge. Look at the XXX specs, they pretty much double up enclosure size when going up a cone size. The 18 requires twice the enclosure as a 15, 15 requires twice as much as a 12, etc. So the 18 follows the pattern.

As for which to chose, if you have the space, the power and the desire for its impact on your system, Id chose the 18. I chose dual 15's personally, but a single 18 would be sweet too.

The 18XXX ****in rocks!!!!!! Keep in mind, the 10, 12, 15, 18 ALL use the same motor! All that changes (basically) is the cone/surround, basket, etc. So, I have an 18XXX and it's powered by a modded mtx 1501d.....in 7.5 cubes NET @31hz and 120 in^2 of port!!!! It's WICKED.....****in amazing SQ...period!!! peace
