I was sittin here at the house tonight bored, so I decided to wire up XXX 12" RE to a Sundown 3000D. Yes I know it's not designed to take this much power, but I wanted to see how it would handle it.

Put 2 DEKA 9A31's in the trunk...put it in one of my old 12" boxes I built and went at it..Gain at 0, Bass boost at 0 , sub pre-out at 2/15.. Box is 3 cubes tuned to 30Hz, fiberglassed, and 100 square inches of port.

So god fricking loud it was insane. It blew me away for not having the reputation of being a SPL subwoofer. IKt does do what it is designed to do, and thats be an extremely loud ground pounder.

Only thing is...after about 2-3 songs...the coils stunk exceptionally bad..to the point where I couldn't sit in the vehicle. Cone was not hot or anything, but I did not want to blow it so I turned it off...

Tomorrow I'll put a PPI DCX 1000.1 on it and see how it does.. but in my opinion..this woofer should never be sent 3k watts... just too much for it.

Before you take that Sundown out you ought to hook it up to one of your tweeters. You never know how it will handle it until you try.

I did wire a 6.5 midbass Infinity Reference to it...

I'ma wire up a PPI 1000 DCX tomorrow to the XXX and see if it likes that better than the 3k Sundown....that sundown seemed to Assrape that XXX and it didnt like it.. loll....

the thermal power on the XXX's is only 2k.

hope you didnt do any serious damage to it

Nah, I checked the coils, VC's are fine. I didnt play it long enough to mess it up. I believe though, had I kept playing it for an hour or so, I'd have probably damaged it.

I wired the XXX to 4 ohm today and wired the Sundown 3K back up to get 800 watts from the amplifier. Man....it sounds fricking awesome....for 800 watts..

i play my 05 xxx 10" off one of my 2500d's sometimes and it never gets stinky. but then again im kind of of a ****** when it comes to cranking the volume for very long.
