i got my hifonics XX-zues today from a deal i made with cadenceowner. Throw it in and put all my settings where i had em on the old hifonics (BX1000d) and put the gain a little lower (little less than half) and it sounds nice and loud in the car. But when i open my trunk i get this horrible sound from the cone. i dont know if it is normal or what.... but i need help Btw they are 2 12 SS RL-P D4s so the amp is at a 1 ohm load giving a full 1600w, the weird thing is i dont know what is causing the sound i almost know its not over excursion because ive seen em move more on the same notes without this HORRIBLE sound... and since the amp tells you when it is sending a clipped signal (overload light blinks) its not even that loud, were talking real quiet in the car. so i just need some advice, cuz you cant hear this sound in the car and it is loud as hell when its set like the other amp... but at the same time i dont wanna ruin my subs... or amp... so if anyone has any idea what i need to do i can use the help.

Its not the same amp, so you cant just guess that the controls are set the same.

I cant figure out why people post about problems with their setup.....and one of the first things they say is how they just set the gain to some random place.

Read the gain setting tutorial, and let us know if that helps.

what i meant was that i set the LPF, subsonic, and that kind of thing i didnt set the gains and all that the same... bass eq, level and Q were all set according to what i THOUGHT was safe. just a little more explanation on the settings for ya

could be tinsel slap. could be faulty sub motor. maybe there's an air leak in your box causing your subs to act weird. there's a billion guesses at to what it could be.
cant be tinsel slap cuz the tinsel leads are woven into the spyder, boxes is very possible, i have these rlps in a box that is way to big for em and maybe that is why im getting the over excursion (or whatever it is) cuz isnt that right with a smaller box that a sub will move less? because of more air pressure? but what do you people think is causing the "clipped" signal warning light to blink, i mean what causes a clipped signal in the first place?

set the gains with a dmm and see what happens. The best way to go about solving the problem is to elinate one possibility at a time. If you set the gains with a DMM, then you know that your amp shouldn't be clipping (regardless of the light), if this solves the problem, then you are done, if not, move onto something else.

Describe the sound, is it more of a poping or a constant scraping...My guess is that the box is at fault.
actually is more like a constant scraping when there is a low note.... but when it makes this sound the ouptut into the car is loud as hell.... but this sound is horrible enough that im sure that it has to be damaging the subs in some way...

so is the general problem here probably the size of the boxes? i could use some nice box plans if anybody is willing.... i was thinking 1.5 at 31hz... im sure that a smaller enclosure would solve alot of problems... not to mention setting gains with a dmm.... i wanna figure this out soon so i can start on my amprack and all that and make it look all perty... but i cant do that till i get new boxes and have room for my false floor... anyone wanna do me some box plans?

constant scraping means that you probably expanded the VC my giving it too much power (Thermal)

I have done this, but it has also gone away after a few hours playtime, so idk what the issue could be. Clipping will cause that, if the power sent by the amp cant be dissapated by the sub, because it isnt moving properly.
