xmax????

Xmax used to be defined as coil length - gap / 2
For overhung drivers; for underhung, it was the opposite: Hg (height of the air gap/top plate) - Hc (height of the coil) / 2.

But neither of these represent BL linearity very accurately. Now it is fairly typical to accept 70% BL as Xmag for subwoofers and usually >80% BL for mids (for example, all tests in VoiceCoil magazine use 82% BL). That is without accounting for suspension non-linearities either.

It's a complicated issue with little to no standardization in the industry.
