XM radio noise.

ok, i see what you mean, well you need to have a dedicated xm antenna, and they arent like your normal car radio antennas, its a special one that should of come with the kit. You cant use your car's antenna to recieve the Xm signal. I dont know anything about the sure connect thing, but try to hook your xm antenna up to the car dock for the xm reciever and plug in the power cord and see how it works, also which xm reciever are you using?

I have a audiovox XMC-10A reciever, and I know the antenna is mounted and connected I'm not that dumb, but this one needs to have a lead to your radio antenna for FM modulation. I could've bought one like you were talking about, but I got this one to use my AUX input with, but as you can see that isn't working out too well, and I really don't feel like ripping apart my dash so I guess I'll go back to the modulation

sorry just trying to cover all the bases //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

ok, i went and downloaded the setup instructions for your radio, im assuming your using the audiovox xpress right? ok so I see what you mean with the sure connect piece, try to take that out of the loop and just connect the antenna lead directly to the cradle and plug it in and see how it does, it may work, it may not but it probably cant get any worse right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif also did you take care to not crimp the antenna wire? they are very sensitive and they dont like being crimped, lemme know how it goes--Dinty

I didn't mean that in a snotty way at all... I know you're just trying to help. Well I connected the sureconnect to the antenna wire that goes into my head unit and it works great! But now I think I have a defective cradle, because everytime I turn off the car/unit, it defaults into some other mode which disables the FM modulation. I don't know what the deal is, this is so painful.... I got it as a gift from someone from out of town and I have no recipt to exchange it with. Audiovox is closed for the holiday still, and I'm sure their warranty will take months to get it back to me.

its cool, i just wanted to cover all the bases, youd be suprised that people dont know that it needs an antenna, now you said: Well I connected the sureconnect to the antenna wire that goes into my head unit and it works great! which antenna wire was that? the one for the xm antenna or the car radio antenna? if its the car radio antenna try using the regular radio and see how it works, and on the default thing, if you go into the menu there may be a spot to save settings so that you dont have to enable the fm modulation everytime you use it--Dinty

I connected that sureconnect boot to the antenna wire that goes into the head unit. I just clipped it on there and I get decent reception. Now I'm not sure what is wrong with it. It defaults to FM modulation, but it is stuck on aux now. It is supposed to detect automatically, but no such luck. I tried everything, the only thing that works is plugging in the aux in/out. turning the unit off and pulling the aux in/out back out, and then turning the unit back on. After that, if you turn the unit off it defaults back to the aux in/out controls. It just started doing that one so I'm guessing it's just messed up now.

hmm not sure about this part, Ive never experience any problems like that, mine always just worked, did u try connecting the xm antenna to the craddle and not using the sureconnect thing?

Well it powers up fine. and It works great with FM modulation, the only problem is that it won't recognize that there is no more aux cable unless you connect it. turn the unit off. disconnect, then turn it back on at that point it lets you mess with the FM modulation settings. The second you turn it off though, it turns back to auxillary, and I'm not down with having to do that connect disconnect sequence everytime I get in the car. I bought this unit for the easy connect/disconnect cradle. this is absurd.

yea i dont know what else to tell ya, if i had one of those units id be of more help but without having one im at a loss, keeping working it i guess, theyre made to be simple like you said so it may just be one of the settings, hope it works out for ya--Dinty

Would it be OK to strip the antenna wire that comes from my car into my head unit so I could get a better connection on that sureconnect thing? I have it connected over the rubber on the wire and it works OK, but there's a lot of static. I had the idea of stripping that wire so that the sure connect could have metal on metal contact, but I didn't know if that would cause any other issues. Like I said before I can't stick it to the actual antenna on the outside of the car as I have a power antenna and it wouldn't go up or down if I had that connected on it.

thanks

Can you maybe take some pictures of this sure connect piece and the wires associated with it? I still dont follow why you need to use it, since the xm antenna will plug into the craddle for the xm reciever and then plug in the power to the cigerette lighter, what does the sure connect have to do with it? Like I said Ive never had any xm radios that used them so I dont know how they work, I read the online instructions but without seeing it Im not understanding it.

But in reference to your question above, how does your car's antenna connect to your radio? does it have a 90 degree plug on the end? It should I would think, but I wouldnt strip it, you may damage the wire inside the casing by accident, pics showing all the connections you have would be helpful

dude... finnally maybe i can get some help.. i've been surfing all night trying to get help.. i just got a sportscaster with the "SURE CONNECT" and i also clipped it on the vehicle's antenna wire right behind my cd player... i didn't want to run the stupid wire to the outside of the vehicle.. i am hearing static on all channels and i was also wondering if i could carefully strip back the outisde insulation on the vehicles antennna wire and clip the sure connect on there.... thank you so much if you can help..!
