xbox 360 e74

Ok so 2 days ago my 360 started flashing the single red light and gave me the e74 error message. I've had the system for 4+ months now and never had a problem. So I buy one of these "Amazing fix your rrod and other xbox errors and stuff and junk" kits online, specifically the James Dean kit, complete with videos and a .pdf instructions. I follow the instructions step by step and all goes well. I played it last night for 3-4 hours easily no problems at all. This morning I turn it on and throw in the UFC '09 and I'm playing for a solid hour, then the screen goes fuzzy and it's the e74 message again. I'm frustrated beyond belief as i ended up spending $30+ on the tools and $34 for the DIY program to still have no xbox. Does anyone have any hands on experience with this that they can share with me?

Thanks

Andrew

Where did you see the error message? My buddies has the 3 rings, and wants to know where to start fixing it, but doesn't know what error it is...
3 red rings is covered under warranty. Call MS and ask for them to fix it

Or if you want to do it yourself then look up the X-Clamp mod.

I used to fix em but I cant charge enough to make it worth my time so now I just mod xbox's (much better profit margins //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif )

Is it just me, or are Xbox's always made of completely substandard parts? I had 3 orig xbox's and they all 3 crapped out right away, same problem, drive failure. I look online and its an EXTREMELY common problem to the point people sell kits to replace the drive for $50. Meanwhile my old playstation from like 1990 still works fine.

The 3 bad xbox's in a year turned me off to throwing money down that gaming console money-pit ever again. I'll just toss my money down microsoft's Windows based money-pit instead.

Word, I love my xbox360, but my PS3 has yet to crap out and my PS2 I still have is working like a champ from years ago. Hell my PS1 still works as well.

I have had my xbox sent out only once, but my dad has had his sent back twice and now can't get his online to work. Too many headaches, but there are so many games.

When I go game hunting, I sometimes don't know which route to go.....it takes me awhile if the same game comes out on each console, lol!

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.

I pretty much did the whole rrod fix. I replaced the thermal paste under the GPU and CPU and it was working for a while, then like i said, it just cut out again. I have the entire thing torn apart sitting in front of me. I want to do the A/V cable test, but I don't want to go buy another to test it if it's not the problem ya know?

Chances are your av cable is fine, boot it without one and if you still get it then your fu*ked. Youll get an error code on the non hdmi xbox's but if your xbox is hdmi then it will boot fine without a av cable.

Did you remove the xclamps and replace em with 5mm machine screws (16mm long for gpu and 16 or 20mm for cpu)

Ya i just went out and bought a new cable and it's still doing the same thing. As for the xclamps, yes I got rid of them and cleaned the CPU and GPU then applied new thermal paste. The error message doesn't show up until I plug in the A/v cables. Mine is the hdmi version. I'm totally lost

yeah, but he had a friend flash his xbox for him.. I don't think microsoft will still give him warranty or not.

Ya, since I tried to do the work myself, the warranty is void i believe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
