Ring psychology and showmanship are kind of interesting. I just on wiki reading about it. Predetermined winner and loser, but the whole match is improv.

The ref and time keeper tell them when to finish up, when theres a commercial break or when they should do something crazy for the replay reel.

WWE definitely sucks and its not going to get any better because its a publicly traded company. They have to impress the stockholders. Not only their own but the ones at NBC too.

(as someone already mentioned, that joint venture with NBC is still standing, as USA Network is owned by NBC and they also have an agreement to supply NBC with 3 - 5 episodes of Saturday Night's Main Event every year)

Before 2000 or so, it was privately held, so they could push things as far as the FCC would allow them to.

I watch it every now and again just because some of the crazy stunts the guys pull. It is all in fun. I watch UFC and the like for real but some of that gets boring if there are 8 guys that fight all ground and pound wrestlers...not that the fights are boring just 3 or 4 matches that all do the same thing gets to be same ol' same ol'.

I watched back in the mid 80's. I remember watching the saturday morning cartoons too-Big John Stud, Hulk Hogan,Hillbilly Jim, Andre The Giant, Junkyard Dog. i think Brutus the Barber and macho Man might have been in it too-cant really remember.

I re watched some old wrestlemania about a year ago. Like wrestlemania 2-10 and I remember how pumped I was as a kid to watch these......man they were cheesy and so fake.
I guess we all like it being little kids and such, but I lost the love for it when I was about 14ish

I some ties turn it on but its just to much crap now

truf, i just spent the last hour reading the wikipedias on all the old wrestling. It's pretty neat to read about the backstage stuff that was going on.

Old pro-wrestling pwnd this ish, but I still watch it. Maybe I am that bored, or I know what it takes to put on a show that is fake. A lot of work goes into what they do and if somebody miss times a move by a milli second, it could end your career. Honestly most of them are all friends and consider themselves family. It really is something to see up live backstage. Most people would have a new found respect for what they do if they seen the backstage antics, warm-ups and them getting into their characters and how well a match went after it was done and them talking about it. Shit is unreal!

they had like 6 hours of old 1980's era AWA wrestling on ESPNC yesterday. Old Verne Gagne really knew what he was doing, lol. The best was seeing 19-year old's Marty Janetty and Shawn Michaels as the Midnight Rockers. They were great. And the old, "The russian team is always hated and gonna cheat" themes, lol.

I have watched most of those when the did the marathon run of it last year, lol!

the show is predetermined but alot of what goes on people really get hit and so forth..you had to know that even when you were 12 if not do you really think a person would stay hunched over for 10 seconds and not move for a stunning finishing move? LOL

I knew it was fake back then as well, but knew it took skill and respected that. All and all, it is sports entertainment, always has been, it's just a bigger stage now and covered. I wish I was McMahon for like 5 minutes. I would be rich!

why because of Lesnar? If that is why you say that you need to also know Lesnar is one of the most decorated armature wrestlers to ever go into the UFC..that is a fact and pretty indisputable he was wanted pretty bad to wrestle on the Olympic teams as well but he turned it down because the wwf gave him a high 6 figure contract right out of college to go into one of their smaller regional productions then he went big time soon after. The money he was making in the WWE was greater paying than he would have made in football/or the UFC unless they start paying the fighters like they do boxers. Only 2 fighters out in the world that I think can beat Lesnar are Mir and Fador and I also think Lesnar can beat them as well. Not too many BJJ guys have the strength to do what Mir does. You are going to freak out come this summer when Bobby Laslie is in the UFC as well...He is also a VERY highly tauted amature champion that did what Lesnar did in WWE. Instead of thinking they are jokes because they were in the WWE maybe you should look at why they were offered $$$$$$$$$ unlike the others. They were BIG, impressive and dominant in NCAA wrestling so much so WWE offered them more $ than anything/anyone else would pay.

Lesnar should have taken that fight against Mir but caught Lesnar in a suprising submission. I saw that fight live and I was stunned.
