im looking more for the punchier bass i can get out of 10's it suits my taste in music better. the 12 is nice and reallly loud, but it doesnt seem to hit the range of notes that im looking for. would it be more responsive in a ported enclosure or is that just for spl?

More responsive? Hmm, not sure what you mean. A ported box will get louder than a sealed box, I don't think the sub will get 'punchier'. Maybe you're just one of those people that finds the W7 a weird-sounding subwoofer.

Anyway, I have two JL 10W3's for sale/trade right now, let me know if you're interested. They're in a ~2 cu. ft. sealed box I'll include if you need it.
