Beg to differ......my neighbor was a forklift mechanic who retired from the Ford plant in Atlanta....$35 dollars an hour and this was back in 1988. He only has 3 fingers to prove it!!If you didn't get that ....then you have never worked on heavy equipment.

My father worked at Ford's, uncle worked for GM, grandfather worked for Chrysler, cousin works for Chrysler, another cousin worked for Ford's, and I worked briefly for GM. No worker on the assembly line made $30 an hour. I repeat, no worker made over $30 an hour. You can beg to differ all you want, but you are wrong. Only skilled trade made more then $30 an hour. Even Ron Gettlefinger agrees with me, but I guess your neighbor is above the union contract?

Besides, I don't even think forklift mechanics are UAW or even big 3 employees. I'm almost certain that is subcontract work.

He was the lead mechanic for the other mechanics, no wasn't a line worker which may explain it.

If he even was union, he would've been skilled trade since it would require specialized training and/or a certificate

Union workers do not make $75 an hour. Some douchebag took all of GM's hourly workers, plus retirees, included any and all vacation time, and divided that by the number of current workers (which retirees almost double current workers) to come up with this propaganda. No worker makes $30 an hour. They do not make over $45 an hour in benefits. Top salary is $28 an hour. New hires make $14.
Also, Rick Wagoner only makes 2.2 million as CEO of GM. Why don't you ***** about the financial ceo's who received bonuses. besides the auto czar would not allow a bonus anyways.

To be fair, that is how every business in the world calculates what is known as the "fully burdened labor rate" which is very uselful in cost analysis. I don't find issue with making this public. The problem is, those jackasses whining about it don't get the "extra" costs that go into this calculation. If they took a minute to add sick time, vacation time, retiree benefits, insurance, income tax matching, etc into their own wage, they would realize how expensive they are as well.

In essence, from what I have read people are comparing the fully burdened labor rate of one company compared to the wage of another.

Don't you think $35 is fair pay for a job where you are probable to lose fingers, arms, and have injury for the remainder of your life?

If they substituted the word "costs" for "makes", there would be some accuracy, but not much more. It's more of a cost accounting term that never should have made its way to the public, which are morons.

Well, that plan was full of fial.

The question is raised, "WTF did you agree to pay the $75/hr".

But that's neither here nor there now. I am thinking of making a speculatve play on Ford 10 calls. Just not sure if GM/Chrystler is going to drag Ford (and most of the rest of the industry) down.

They started turning away 25 years ago and now the shit has finally hit the fan but it's the union's fault GM made a Cavalier and named and priced it as a Cadillac or who can forget the ingenious design of the Pontiac Aztec. What's sad is, there are great cars mixed into these blunders.
