Soldering irons can range anywhere from about 10 bucks to a couple hundred... that is why I was asking what you are using it for.

Radio shack, lowes, home depot, any craft store, sears will all carry them locally, especially if you just need a cheap one.

I just checked the radio shack website out.. and i found many soldering devices for good prices there...

but i got a question.. will a cordless soldering tool be sufficent for soldering speaker wires into the terminals?

and is there a specific kind of solder (the metal wire thingy that you solder with) recommended? But is it necessary?

sorry for some noob questions, I m new to soldering..

Cordless is fine but I wouldnt get a cold heat one or battery powered only a butane one. Just get the corded one for terminals though since butane is more expensive.

Just about any solder from radio shack will work. Standard rosin core is probably the cheapest and will work fine. Just pick the size you think will work the best. Its easier to learn using the thinner ones but too thin and and it will take forever.

Solder type I usually just go with the normal 60/40, it's the most common for electronic soldering. some use 63/37 which from what I understand is a bit softer, but either works.

As for a cordless iron, if it's a decent one then yeah of course it will. Some good ones are the Weller butane ones as they run off butane gas and don't need a cord. They can be a tad pricey though depending on budget.

Ah I was typing as the guy above me was posting, so my post is kind of redundant, but basically backs up what he said. Lol :p

Dont get a battery powered one. They are junk. The solder is fine though its probably more than enough to last you a couple of years. You can look into a smaller amount for less money if you so choose.

alright I guess I ll get that..

But you said to get a cordless one, then obviously it got to be battery powered.. But you said they r junk? lol am I confusing myself ha?
