something decent on the amp.. 500rms x 1 x 2ohm or something like that..

Well the box is very important your best bet is to build your own. You will get the best system for your money with a real box.

For that budget I'd suggest you go to wal mart and buy sony amp, sony subs and the prefab'd box. Hopefully you won't break 300 and you'll save on shipping....lol

LOL for $300 you can get a JL500/1. But I think you will have just enough for the cables.

the box i ended up chosing was a dual 10" fiberglass box that was built last month for a local customer who backout of a sale. box just needs paint. has amp rack and sits perfect in my trunk.

so it's sealed!
