Got most of my system--just need the sub and amp and its done. I have a pioneer 880prs hu, rainbow 265's in the front and 6 1/2 coaxial rear powered by JL 300/4. I was going to buy a 500/1 to power 1 10 or 12 inch sub in my 2004 Civic coupe. I now see I might be getting a better deal buying another brand. What is comparable to the JL that might be a better deal? Also can I get a decent sub in the $200-250 range powered by recommended amp? Thanks,

Dave

Any other comparable amps? I was looking at the JBL BPX500.1 (which I like) and was wondering what was comparable from orion, diamond, hifonics, zapco, soundstream etc.

If you care about matching amps you could sell the 300/4 and get a Memphis MC3004 and MC500D. I personally like the ooks of the older memphis amps. The 3004 (75x4) goes for under $300 and you can find the 500D (500x1@2) for around $200.

I was looking at the JL 500/1, mainly because I have a single 12, with a 4 ohm SVC. So I need something that does decent power into 4 ohms.

The only ones I found were the JL and the Phoenix Gold Xenons.

The JL is like $600. I found a used PG x600.1 on a message board for $150. Seemed like an easy decision. The PG is 600+ watts into any load.

They are on eBay pretty regularly for $200 or so. Or you can get the x400.1 (400w into any load) for $130 shipped on eBay.

here we go again. over an extended period of time the 500/1 will put out more power at 4 ohms than two. it is a good choice if you are going to stay at 4 ohms. get into 2 ohms or lower and they create more power mometarely until they heat up which is fairly soon then they back off on power.
