i've heard the pre-outs on those are a little weak, do you have an opinion on that particular unit?

also would consider an 800 or 880 prs.

I upgraded to the 7998 from a 9815 and it there was a huge difference in sound quality. I never experienced any problems with the preouts, the gains on my amps were set very low, almost off, and the system still sounded great at moderate volume.
