wtb 6x9's!

95BlackGA is right on I think, I have no specs on these babies but they do sound fantastic I was running them with an Orion XTR-450 in the rear deck of Mercury Grand Marquis. They wont fit in many cars because the cast aluminum frame is big and extends to the edge and they need to be top mounted since the metal grill is integrated with the speaker. They are very efficient and do not require gobs of power to get loud at all. I think the frequency response is 40Hz - 20Khz but it has been awhile don't quote me on it.

They will leave all but a couple of the 6x9's made today in the dust. The only 6x9 that came close in that era was the JBL T545, JBL reintroduced the T595 as an Anniversary model. Cerwin Vega did not follow suit, all there full range speakers are foriegn made junk these days.

I was actually going to ask you how the Vegas you have compared to the T545 if you knew...how strange you would mention them. That's exactly what I was thinking as I was reading your description about your Vegas being a top-mount only speaker and why etc etc to me it sounded like you were actually describing the JBLs as everything you mentioned could accurately be said about the 545s as well.

I owned a pair of the T545s. I had them mounted low in the doors of an '81 Silverado 1/2-ton driving them with a 60w + 60w Yamaha amp. Set where the angled tweeter/midrange bridge was angled up towards the center of the cab they sounded bloody fantastic to my ears...

So would you rate your Vegas better than, worse than, or equal to the 545s?

Mike~

The point of this thread theft was going to be a suggestion based on if he says they compare equal to or better than the JBL T545 of yesteryear. If he reckons the Vegas are at least as good? If they'll fit in your install then buy them. Good price (I'm basing that opinion on my direct knowledge of the JBLs he mentioned //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif) on one heckuva coaxial.
