"The CEA-2031 standard is the second in a series of standards meant to make choosing mobile electronics equipment easier for consumers. The first standard in the series is CEA-2006-A, which defines measurement and reporting requirements for mobile amplifiers. The third, CEA-2015, is still in development, and will define requirements for power and speaker cables used in mobile electronics equipment. "

wonders if this really solves anything because you are still going to have people having the gain turned all the way up lol.

Did CEA 2006-A make any difference? Not really. Neither will these. The standard needs to be WIDELY accepted rather than by only a few BB companies that happen to live up to the standards.

^^ QFT.

I wish there was some kind of standard for amps.

If an amp meets the standards, then the specs should be something more useful, like this:

Input Voltage: 12.5V

Gain Setting: 2V

Nominal Load: 4 Ohms

Test Signal: 600 Hz

RMS Output Per Channel: 125W

Now that would be great.

That's what the 2006 spec tries to do, although the "gain setting" parameter is meaningless. The problem is that it's completely voluntary, amp manufacturers aren't required to comply.

ya, that's exactly what cea2006 is.

i agree, tho, you don't have many options out there.

kenwood and sony amps are about the only ones i've seen rated, and they only rate their high end models that do rated anyways.

Exactly why I feel a realistic standard needs to be initiated. The standard would be voluntary as well, but for those manufacturers that don't comply, I can forsee their credibility being affected far worse than not complying to the CEA2006 spec.

And after thinking about it, it would be nice if CEA2006 would also include real rms power output at 12V and 13V along with 14V. This addition alone would probably educate a lot of consumers before they buy.

i'd like to see a rating for power consumption and efficiency at various voltages, as well.

i guess it's asking a lot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

why ARENT amp manufacturers held more liable for their advertised power ratings, tho? i remember a few years back mazda published hp ratings for the latest model of miata that were a little optimistic, and people actually sued them, and were rewarded refunds/ settlements.

USAmps, as well...the TU300C box had the CEA2006 logo on it.

Goes to show...ehh, I'll stop there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Though I don't think anyone can argue that finally attempting to standardize the industry, even if only voluntary, is in any way a bad thing.
I agree. Although this is a small step, I feel greater strides need to be made. And maybe that is in the works, who knows until the future revision are published....

As illustrated by JimJ's posts there are considerably more manufacturers than those two using the CEA-2006 ratings standards for their products.

Additionally see >>here

I wouldn't call that one of Kenwood's "high end" models by any means but it's still compliant with the CEA-2006 standards //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Where do you come up with this stuff? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
