Would this work?

Hey guys,

I think I may have blown one of my midbass for my speakers today (6.5 Alpine type-E components). It makes a popping sound when anything under 120hz is played through it.

I had been looking to upgrade anyway. I was looking at the Selenium 6W4P's and they look quite nice. I was wondering if it was possible to buy the Selenium's or something similar, and buy a separate 2-way cross over and hook it up together with the Alpine tweeters. I cant use the Alpine crossover as it is some funky inline thing. I know the Selenium's are 8ohms but I am not sure what the Alpine tweeters are. I have around 150 rms to work with, but I am worried the amp would send 75 watts to the mid bass and 75 to the tweeter.

Would using a kind of mix and match front stage work? If so can some one link me to a decent crossover? Does this make any sense?

Thanks guys!

Ugh I checked out how to build a crossover, and I really don't think I want to do that. Can any one suggest some pre-made crossovers that would fill my needs?

No pre made that are for different impedance values unless you buy the separate in-line crossovers from Parts Express for the respective impedance values.

Building a crossover is easy.

You can still use the alpine crossovers for the tweeters, good to keep that the same.

I really don't think I can keep the Alpine crossover, they are really pretty weird. Crutchfield says:

Crossovers: The Alpine SPS-610C features low-pass crossovers attached to each woofer's input terminal and high-pass crossovers in-line with the tweeters' speaker wires.

Sorry it is not the type-E but the type-S. I am very sorry about that.

The model number is Alpine SPS-600C. I tried posting a link to sonic electronix, but it said a mod has to approve it first.

Basically there are two sets of terminals on the woofer. one for the speaker wire from the amp, and another that wires to what Alpine calls an "inline crossover". That then wires to the tweeter.

just connect it before the mids xo.

Look at the back of the old woofer, the wire coming from the amp should be electricly connected to the tweeters wires. post a pic if you can. if you can't pm me so I can get a pic directly.

So you are saying get another cross over, a more typical one, where it says woofer connect it to the midbass, and where it says tweeter, connect that to the alpine crossover, and then from that to the tweeter?

I will post pictures in the morning. Its 3 am here in central Florida haha.
