Would this be an upgrade?

Currently I have an old setup consisting of 2 10" MTX Black Golds in a sealed box being run by a PG XS2500 amp (500 watts). Would it be an upgrade to switch to a single 12" Diamond D6 in a ported box? I listen to alot of metal (Korn, Mudvayne, Slipknot) and am looking for more SQ and a lil more output. Is there any other suggestions you may give? Thanks!

Having never heard the Black Golds Icannot make a direct comparison to know if going with the D6 would be an upgrade, per se...

Having said that -

I own a DAT M6mkII 12" (same sub as the D6) in a ported box and it sounds excellent!

I can't say you'd be disappointed, for sure.

Another couple questions. Which model D6 should i purchase, and its ported or sealed best for metal music? Thanks again!

I cannot say which would be best as I have not heard one in a sealed enclosure - all I have heard is my ported box and a couple of others elsewhere.

The model D6 you get will depend on the capabilities of whatever amp you end up with/have.

The Dual 4 Ohm model can be wired to either 2 or 8 Ohms.

The Dual 2 ohm model can be wired to either 4 Ohms or 1 Ohm.

You'll want in between 500~800 watts for that sub so reference the above and then see what power you can give it within that range and at what impedence then decide which VC configuration suits your application the best.

Ohh black and golds those are old. That was MTx's line when I get into caraudio. They are pretty good but they dont compare to the technology of todays woofers!!

Go with the D6, will it be louder? Thats install dependant!

I think I'm gonna end up getting the 4ohm DVC 12" D6 and put it in an AudioEnhancers box. s my amp ample enuff for this task? Its and old PG XS2500. I think this should be a good strong setup to go along with my 6.5 Hex components.

yep it should be an upgrade....Prowler573 what are u hittin on a TL?? let him know and he can decide if its loud or not

not sayin he can get as loud as u(install dependant) but just a ballpark idea so he knows where he might be

According to the specs I could find that amp will do a 2 Ohm load even mono bridged (but it also says adequate cooling is a must and potentially outboard cooling apparatus might be a good idea running in this configuration as there is no active cooling such as an inbuilt fan) and that in that mode you'll get 700w @ 2 ohms. That would be just about perfect for a 12" D6 dual-4.

Just be sure it can get plenty of air.

I've never had it metered, Kotec. I'm not particularly interested in actual numbers seeing as I have absolutely zero plans of ever competing. It's all about whether or not it sounds good to my ear and not some microphone. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ok, I see my amp is rated as this:

Bridged RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 500W x 1 @ 13.8V

So i should prolly get the 2 ohm model, or **** it up and buy another amp. Hmmmm, what to do.

From what I have read doing a very quick search is that even though it isn't posted in the manual anywhere the XS2500 will safely hold a 2 Ohm load while bridged but it hasa tendency to get rather hot so adequate cooling is a must. Apparently it will give you 700w @ 2 Ohms mono bridged.
