The Alpine tweeter is a derivative of Vifa's XT19 which is a highly regarded home tweeter. Beautiful sounding tweeter, but special attention needs to be paid when picking mids to match up with it.

Might be fine, but from what I hear, the Daytons don't like to crossed over much higher than 2 kHz. Might consider a different tweeter that can extend lower.

Some people like the DA175s, and I know some people that have used the Silver Flutes. Both have gotten okay reviews. I think the edge goes to the Daytons though.

However , being a metal coned driver, special attention needs to be paid to breakup nodes. So you really want to use a tweeter capable of crossing around 2k. There aren't many budget options, unless you go with a large format tweeter. The only budget option (that performs exceptionally well) is the Seas Neo tweeter.

It runs about $28.00 + shipping from Madisound. You can go with a cheaper tweeter like the XT19 I suggested before, but you'll need to pick a driver with a paper or glass cone. That's why I suggested the MLI-65 as a budget option. Yeah Zaph says it's distortion "won't win any awards", but overall, he still puts it at the highest rating for value.

The driver has been reviewed, and is very capable in a car door.

So, once again I suggest, for extreme budget, but not budget sound, the Mach Audio MLI-65 coupled with the Vifa XT19 (Alpine variant from PacParts).

It would be an easy setup to work with as opposed to a lot of other options like the Tang Band and Dayton offerings.

Under $100.00 after shipping for some very nice speakers.

Run them active and you have a pretty nice setup that you can brag only cost you "X" amount of dollars.

The mid that DejaWiz recommends is rock solid as well, albeit a bit difficult to work with. If a large format tweeter isn't your cup of tea, then the Seas Neo is a great option, and will match up decently with the RS180.

If you feel you may get the upgrade bug down the road, the Seas Neo is a great place to start as it's a very versatile tweeter, and performs up there with tweeters much, much more expensive.

While I really like your driver choices, I don't like them together that well. My XT19's struggle below 4khz and getting much more than 2k (2.5k with real steep slopes) out of the Mli's isn't realistic either. Of course for the budget having a fairly large underlap isn't always all that bad. I have not tried the two together but normally like to run closer than 1500hz away on my two drivers.

What are your thoughts about the XT25 in the same setup, MiniVan? Can they get much more lower than the XT19's? Let's say around 2-2.5kHz for the sake of discussion.

I only ask because my reasons are twofold: 1.) To help bring another option into the thread here, and 2.) I'm about to go active with my SPX-177R set using a Coustic XM6. Since the XM6 won't go above 3kHz (at 18dB/Oct) on the HP without leaving a huge frequency gap from the mids, I'm considering the XT25 since I really like the ring radiator Vifa tweeters.

The XT25 is a bit better than the XT19 in lower end, but not much. You can get 3k out of them, maybe a bit less if you use a really steep slope. The XM6 though uses 18 db crossover points. I think you may be fine. It's a nice tweeter.
