1983 - Philips and Sony develop the CD-ROM, as an extension of audio CD technology.
Pretty popular by 1991 for high end system //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
Then Philips unvelied a cheap($400) 4x CD-ROM in 94 propelling its use by leaps.
see if you can snag a similar computer off ebay with a dead screen or something, depending on HD size or something if I were you I would be interested in using it as a music jukebox or something. Doesn't take much to run winamp and hook it up to your car or whatever. just cause its old doesn't mean it doesn't work, just run the same era programs on it and it should run quick and smooth, its when people get all caught up about upgrades and such that their comps bog down. I still run win 2000 Pro back at home and have yet to find a reason to upgrade and its rock solid compared to my friends with XP and not even gonna talk about vista lol
