Worth it to buy a 2nd?

Hi let me start off by saying Im kinda new (again) I used to read here daily for about 6 months then I changed my email addy and kinda lost track of some internet stuff so I got a new name and Im back lol...anyways

I currently have a 7801 MTX mono amp, supposedly tested 1216watts rms @ 2 ohms I think and 1602watts @ 1 ohm from the factory

and a thunder9512-44 running @ 2ohms, I was trying to decide if it was worth it to take a power cut and buy a 2nd 12" and give them both 800watts @ 1ohm or if I should just keep the single 12" at 1200 watts

Im starting to get bored with the single 12....its loud but....you can never really be loud enough

btw the single 12 is kinda being pushed a little hard right now so the SQ isnt as great as it could be so I figured I might take a little loss in SPL but gain a little more SQ by adding a 2nd

EDIT:: forgot to mention Im currently running a kind of small box for it...its 2 cubes tuned to I think around 35hz, would it just be better to make like a 4cube box for a single 9500 instead of 4.4 cubes for 2 at 32hz?

anyways any help would be greatly appreciated

well a 15 is tempting except for in order to fit a 15 in my trunk I would probably have to remove my 6x9s or put them in boxes on top of the trunk area...

my max height on a box is like 14" and Im rubbing on the bottom of my 6x9s at that but looking at the displacement difference on MTX and its like 167 cu inches to 270 cu inches between the 2 12" and 2 15"s

that and I dont really know what I would do with my 12 that I have now if I got a 15

statistically one 15 would give me 135cu inches of displacement as where 2 12s would give me 167cu inches but once again thats only numbers on paper and at the end of the day they dont seem to matter that much lol...

With a good component set you won't need those 6x9 in the back and plus those 6x9's are actually taking away from your front stage/sq. Also probably your 6x9 are distorting which kinda seems like your sub is distorting, just maybe>

6x9s are tuned pretty good with the HU and dont distort, and if they do they arnt heard over the sub.

if I back the power down on the sub it sounds a little cleaner but thats true to like almost every sub lol

the sub is rated for 1000watts rms and Im pushing like 1200watts rms to it, I know they under-rate them but its still probably pushing it pretty hard

I would buy some components for my car but Im driving a 91 maxima that I would like to keep looking like stock, its no show car but it gets me from point a to b while bumping louder than most ppl in my town...I think Im just going to get the MTX 4" coaxials for now since I blew my 4" infinitys

but it would probably be alot easier on my electrical system to bump 1 15" instead of 2 12"s...I could just remove the 6x9s and build one big box for a 15

I would really love to experiment with different subs since Ive only had a few different subs, 10s and 12s but never a 15

my alt puts out around 140amps at 4000rpm (2k engine rpm) and thats about what I constantly run at and the amp is fused for like 140 amps, I dont want to put too much of a strain on my electrical. I have 1/0 kolossus cable or whatever from knukonceptz and a dry cell battery in my trunk

Thats good that the 6x9 are not playing to hard because the can distort way before the sub does if the gains are not set right which can sound like the distortion is coming from the subs. If you sub is rated to take 1000w and your sending 1200w and the sub sounds like it distorting you should try to turn the gain down to where you max vol that you listen @ where it doesn't distort. If space is kind of a concern why not try a beefed up 10'' that will work in a fairly small port. A 10'' ported installed right will yeild great results, getting as loud if not louder than a 12'' sealed.

Just get a better sub and be done. MTX 9500's arent the end of all subs.
they arnt the end of all subs but they are cheap to buy off ebay...and I figured I would just add a 2nd since I already have one, I mean the thing kicks pretty hard and gets alot louder than any of my friends systems....

Im really thinking about just getting a 15" mtx9500 like u guys recommended instead of a 2nd 12...

I would go with an RE or somethin other than MTX but its only 400$ shipped to buy a brand new 9500 15" off ebay so its mainly the cost issue with that

but I was checking out the T/S parameters from the 12s to the 15s and I tried searching the forums for difference in vas but its nearly impossible because the amount of topics listing T/S params

so I guess my first question would be is a higher VAS good or bad, I know a higher vas means a bigger box but does it mean it isnt as stiff or does it mean its stiffer. and I would imagine a stiffer sub would provide a harder kick compared to a sloppier one

if somebody could help me with the differences between the params telling me what one is better for what reason, all the guides about the T/S params leave out what a lower or higher number means
