I still say the Mayans were too busy with those pesky Spanish Conquistadors to start their "new" calendar. Technically, the Mayan calendar marks the end of an astrological cycle and that is all there is to it.

I find it funny how the so called documentaries on the Mayan calendar seem to mix up Mayans and Aztecs.
