Wow, you must be bored. There is more than one way to present it, I didnt need Wikipedia to tell me. The water, helps to bring out the other flavors, instead of only tasting the anise. The water is not necessary, and not everyone has an absinthe spoon just laying around. You can get the same effect with a tsp of sugar and a TBSP of cold water.

I had real absinthe in Germany. Didn't feel any different than a normal drunk.

I don't really believe the stuff...I think it's just a selling technique so you buy it. Cause once you have it and are drinking it, you can't bring it back. Duhhhh.

Exactly. It's mystique revolves around it use being pretty much banned a long time ago. It's a high potent drink with herbal flavors. Nothing more, nothing less. I like it though and it will get you ****ed up.

Friend got drunk in Portugal off the stuff.

Its quite common knowledge, I had thought, on how to serve this stuff. Yet you still tell me is not necessity, you give instructions exactly as I had explained, only without using a sugar cube.

For all I care, drink the stuff straight. My friend was chasing shots of absinthe with long island ice tea that was 80% alcohol and 10% coke and 10% ice. Subsequently he got extremely hammered and almost did not make it back to the carrier when liberty expired. Showed up to work still hammered the next day.

All that I know, is that stuff is real potent. Especially the real stuff.

We would take a teaspoon of sugar, dip it in the absinthe, light it on fire until it burns out, stir in the sugar, light the shot on fire, and drink the shot through a straw...

May not be the hoity-toity proper way... but that's how I was told to when served it...
