Woofers that do well with double bass?

I listen to alot of metal and was wondering what are some subs that can keep up with fast double bass yet still get fairly loud?

I was looking at the 15" HDC3 simply from a pricing standpoint, not exactly sure how well it performs in this situation though. Any other suggestions are more than welcome though!

Dayton Reference HO.

Great price and keeps up extremely well with quick double bass. Accurate, clean, quality sound //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

A 12 or 15" HO would get pretty loud and low too.

i support this answer! i also have a single 10 HO ported and it is the best sounding sub on double bass i have ever heard. so clear and slams.

id stick to the hdc3. other options are the cadence zrs subs and i used to like my mmats juggernauts when i listened to disturbed and dream theater

Is this really an issue for subs to keep up for fast double bass?

I was wondering the same thing. I have a 12" 2nd gen mag ported @ 2.0 cu ft tuned around 32hz. Seems like my fast double bass (metallica, slipknot, etc) is kind of muddy. Couldn't figure out if it's just the way I set things up, the sub, or a poorly constructed ported box.

Could be your driver, box, or tuning. You won't know until you start elminating options. Start by playing with your tuning a bit. If that doesn't work use a different box. If all those fail then your sub fails

realistically this depends on the drum head used....

some kickdrum is in the "sub" range, but most musical kick I have heard is more in midbass range and should be picked up by a good set of components or midbass drivers

just my two cents

Hmmm Yeah, I think you're right. Now that you mention it, I remember hearing big differences when adjusting my crossovers. Parts of the sound are definately coming from both sub and mids. Currently have the mag @ 63hz 18db point and the mids i've been playing messing with around 80-100hz 18-24db.

I need new mids anyways so I'll do that and see what I can do with the crossovers to give me better sounding double bass.

I agree... subs often get blamed for 'not being able to keep up', when in fact the lack of an adequate midbass driver (and/or installation) is to blame.

spend a day tuning what you have and/or replace the mids and then spend a day tuning. you won't regret it......unless you **** at tuning:laugh:

Of course I do! Maybe i'll get lucky with more forgiving mid drivers though lol. Deadening my doors and running a 9887 active made a world of difference from my old passive setup but I do need to learn more about tuning.
