wiring d4 subs help

okay, so i just got 2 d4 subs and im going to wire it down to 1 ohm.

i already looked up how to wire it down to 1 ohm but my question is most speaker wires come with 2 strands(1 positive,1 negative), do i cut the 2 wires down the middle and use only one strand to wire it up or do i just twist the 2 strand together and use it as one wire? Or am i supposed to find speaker wires that are only one strand? im sorta confused on how to do this sorry if its a nooby question. Gotta start somewhere. Any help is appreciated! Going to be using 12gauge wire.
