Windows 7 <3

I believe (dont quote me on this, just random thought i heard from my teacher) that windows vista tried a new way of handleing processes which basically failed all completely, and windows 7 is just vista, but going back to the way XP handled processes.

If this is the case.. then Windows wins for once.

The problem with Vista, was just bad public relations. They released a buggy beta version and was labeled as such.

The other problem was that Vista required more system resources and could not be run on older computers, even though Microsoft said it met the minimum requirements.

On newer systems it was very stable, reliable and fast. (at least for me)

Windows 7 brings a few new things to the table such as dreamscene and other stuff.

Vista Ultimate had dreamscene as well. I dont know about the other versions because I didnt use other versions.

x2

It didnt leave programs installed, it saved the old windows directory to oldwindows or something similar and all the old files basically. I'd suggest backing everything you NEED up though, and just formatting first. I did it just to clean out unneeded junk and because i've reinstalled windows a dozen times, but it will leave files in non-windows folders.

With the student discount thing. It says that we get it in a download. Does that mean we have to burn it to a disk?
Can we install it on more than one computer?
The student discount (30 bucks in the other thread) is downloadable upgrade version of Win7. You don't have to burn it to a disk, but that is just as stupid as PC manufacturers sending your "recovery" disks on a hidden partition on the main drive. If your HDD ever crashes, guess what happens to your Win7 download?

Legally no, you can't install it on more than one PC, but there are ways around it. Though it usually involves calling MS support and lying to them about the number of times you've activated this copy of Windows.

When you upgrade from vista to windows 7 does it have to delete all of your programs and everything?
All an upgrade does is replace your Vista/XP system files with the newer Win7 files. All your programs remain intact, but you have a new OS.

However, I recommend every time you swap to a new OS that you do a fresh install and start from scratch. It sucks sometimes, but that is the best way IMO.

I just got done talking to a microsoft support person regarding the student windows 7 thing.

The person said that it is a one time download and you cannot burn it do a disk. They said that its a one time deal and if you want to reformat a second time you have to purchase a second license key or some bullshit.

I knew they would shaft us somehow with that 30 dollar price tag. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

If your in school talk to a teacher in the computer department. Chances are they can get your registered for MSDN free software. I just got registered and I get Win 7 Pro x86, x64, Vista SP2 x86 and x64 and tons of other free stuff just for being student.

I go to DeVry University.

They do have a software program available. I got microsoft office enterprise 2007 for free. They had vista listed on their for 30 bucks. I didnt see windows 7 though.

What exactly is MSDN? Most likely something different.

Did you actually get retail versions of those?

For ****s sake! I just noticed my student software website for my school has an MSDN section and I can get a bunch of different versions of vista/xp/windows 7/ CE/ server 2003 and shit load of other programs all free.

I like how I wasted 30 bucks on the download.

Yup thats what I get. Everything I have "purchased" for free gets added to my available software list. When I need to install all I have to do is click the particular software and download. Then install right from disc. It also includes just the key so you can find an .iso image of the particular software and use just your key so you dont have to download each time.
