Window Tinting

I want to tint my own windows. I was wondering when buying tint what to look for to know if it is good tint or not. Like i dont want it to fade and i want it to be dark as it is labeled.

I have a reg cab silverado im thinking of doing 10% all the way around.

Is applying the tint hard? any pointers?

Name brands to look for or stay away from? Also would you reccomend any tint from places such as advance auto parts or wal mart that i could pick up easily?

Post some links of the tint your looking to buy and I'll tell you if it's decent or not. Im familiar with most major brands from my experiance of managing a tint shop that did nothing but mercedes.

i dont think 10% is very popular, 15% and 20% are alot more common. never heard of 10% without custom mix and match. as for brands, i forgot what brand mine is, but supposedly its one of the more expensive tints. lemor or something maybe?

My local auto parts store sells Gila brand tint if you've heard of that. Also i assume they dont sell 10% already then so what would i need to get 10. Or i may just go down to 5%.

Yeah it is very hard, but when you go to a tint shop they make it look so damn easy.

I wouldn't go with 5% though, just because I wouldn't be able to see at night. I love the 15% I've got on my car, I think it's Llumar. It's the perfect darkness IMO, it keeps people from seeing in, it looks pretty good, and most cops probably won't care. I've been stopped once, but it was just like a warning deal, he told me he didn't write tint tickets but other officers would, he just told me to keep that in mind. I haven't been hassled too much though *knocks on wood*.

Here's a pic of my car with the 15% on it:

yes. it sucks. itll prally turn purple/bubble after a few months. i wasted money on doing this with the auto zone tint, and i hate myself. then i went to a shop and bought a ton of Llumar tint (spent like 50 bux...) and i got the 2 back windows done, but roll down windows are hard. i just gave up (after wasting all the tint of course)

but yea, just pay a shop lol

Ok well has anyone ever used the Gila brand tint i can get at advance thats waht i need to know now
i used gila for all 3 cars in my driveway, looks great and it installs just like any other tint. Some of the rolls had a crease from the manufacture so i just took it back to the advanced auto store and replaced it with new rolls. Good products i may add.

5% is great

its a good investment to get someone to tint for you

its normally like 100 bucks or so to get a truck tinted. you would spend at least 40 in supplis //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

if it bubble after a few months you did something incorrectly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Gila is a good product and had no problems with bubblin or cracking/peeling. I just installed gila 2.5% on my project in 35 degree weather and she looks sweet/BTW i wouldnt recommend installing tint in this cold of weather but that was before i purchased a heater for the garage. Here is a tip for those stubborn finger bubbles i used a hairdryer to the outside of the glass put it facing the finger bubble and heat it up and keep trying to push the bubble towards the edge of the window with a credit card or something similar, sometimes you can push the bubble to the edge and hold it there with a credit card and keep the heat to it, till it stays without reappearing, works great for the stubborn sob's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

dude don't do it, its not worth it if you've never tinted before, i'm willing to bet you a million bucks that your first car will be total shit and you'll piss and moan and will be totally frustrated...

go visit tintdude.com if you still dare to do it yourself...

i've tinted two dozen cars and have only started to look decent...
