Yes you can wire any size speaker(s) together so long as the final nominal impedence created by the drivers in question doesn't fall lower than what the amp will operate at safely.
Additionally the diagram you've linked to is for dual voice coil drivers and I can't see that your ByNines will be DVC drivers. So, in your case you'd want this diagram:
