im running my hc 15 off 600 watts with no subsonic filter. it sounds good, but im and extremist. i want a little more spl (im going with two twelves soon). im thinking about giving her 1200 watts with no subsonic filter (will get one in about a week). i know why it is good to have a filter but i want to hear some opinions. do you feel this will be like abusing the sub. has anyone ran this much power to a sub without a filter. how long did the sub survive. i have a one year warranty from respl, but i dont wanna abuse it. my warranty doesnt say if you dont use a filter it is will be voided. i want some opinions and no flames please.

if the sub isn't bottoming out, you dshould be fine..

jst make sure you aren't going TOO FAR below he tuning freq of the box..

it won't matter how much power you give it, just as long as the sub isn't playing freq rnges too far beow wat the box is tuned too.. just watch it for a whle.. if you wanna be EXTRA CAREFUL and are scared, dont do it. just in case

That box is tuned a little on the high side (37 hz), which means it will play okay down to about 33ish-hz, so I wouldn't push it too hard or your sub will die a horrible smoking death.

You could feed it all 1200w, but just be really careful. If you hear it making any funny noises or see it moving more than you think it should on really low notes, turn it off and let the sub cool down for a bit. If you smell voice coil, shut it off right then and give it at least a half hour to rest. I've killed more than my share of subs like this, so don't be surprised if you do kill it.

actually it's down 1/2 an octave of tuning it SHOULD be fine to. so ABOUT 25-29hZ in that range... any lower you'll be sorry man

People put far too much into subsonic filters, IMO. If you are going to be playing material that far below your tuning frequency, turn it down. Its that simple. We have a pair of 12's here in a box tuned to 46 hz that has been daily driven for about 4 years with NO subsonic filter and the subs are fine. All you need to do is know how to operate a volume knob //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and then again there are those of us who like to get the maximum performance out of something we buy. why baby the sub when you dont have to with a subsonic filter? if it was up to me i would go out today and get a filter. i would want cut that thing loose, and see what it is capable of, without having to worry about it.

Am assuming that you are implying that I baby my subs? Far from it :p //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

keeping the volume down, what else do you call that. if do your installs right and you dont have to keep anything turned down if you dont want to. when the sub is very capable of handling the load, why not give it everything you got?

I never said I keep the volume down. Go reread it. I said if I am going to be playing something that I know goes that low, I won't play it as loud. Its pretty simple actually. Just know your program material //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

you don't need a subsonic... people clutch them like the cure...

unless you do something really stupid (i.e. 50hz tune playing 3-6 mafia) then you'll have zero problems..

the HC has a short coil, and AMPLE... I mean AMPLE clearance, forward and back..

forget the subsonic.. play...
