Will i hear a difference?

here is thought so you don't go spending money on building or a built box, add some poly fill and see if you like. it'll only set you back about $10, especially since you are originally wanting a larger sealed box.

I thought about that just to see if i heard a difference. But i have a feeling it wont be much of an improvement in loudness.

Im all for going for a better sub thats not limited to space, but the problem is i dont know what sub to go for. the IDQ 12v2 was the other option i was looking at but i talked to a guy who had a IDQ 12v3 and a polk mm1240 (12" version of my current subs) and he said the polk got louder easy hands down.

So now its go for the 12s of my sub or is there something better? ive made a thread or 2 everyone suggests everything. that doesnt really help how do i pick lol

The IDQ is the better sub hands down. Either he had a shitty box or didnt know how to tune. I have a pair of ID8D2V3's and I love them. They are plenty loud and very musical.

first off he ran them sealed which requires no tuning. but nice try

second the ID and the IDQ are quite different. u say the ID provies enough output for u but i know for a fact they wont be enough for me and ive never heard them. the IDQs prob do offer better SQ than the polks, but doesnt mean they get louder. both will be very musical because theyre sq subs. obviously.

You are stupid. You still have to tune the amp.

The IDQ is a step above the ID. If your looking for SPL get another brand end of discussion. ID is not where you want to be for shitty sound or loudness.

Larger the box the more efficient it is. It will probably be louder to the ear.
True, and not true. A larger box will alter the alignment, shifting the freq response lower. It will be more efficient due to less resistance on cone excursion, you are correct. But most vehicle's have a transfer function in the 40-60hz region, tuning lower/increasing internal volume tends to decrease efficiency in the 40-60 region. IOW, 30hz would be noticeably louder, but over all most people would probably describe the change as "lower, but not louder", even though on average over the freq band it really is louder.

IDQ's can get pretty loud ported, and still maintain virtually all of their SQ composure. In my experience, if this level of output is not enough for you, SQ is not really your goal. At best, SQL is your goal, and you should start considering looking at the next tier of subs... high excursion SQL 'supersubs' like the IDMax level of subs, not more pure SQ based subs like IDQ.

Like i have said i have not heard an IDQ, i personally think it would suit me well. I heard 2 RF punch p2 12" subs in a sealed box off of 400 rms, that or a little louder is all i can even handle. my polk mm1040 10" subs off of an AQ1200D do not match the RF for output but have amazing SQ. i will keep the polks over those RF any day. However i think if i go with a 12" SQ sub i will get the output i want and maintain great SQ.

So is IDQ 12 my best bet? ive had people suggest lots like rd sonances, re audio (forgot model). i mean i have no idea how to pick out of all the suggestions i get. i dont know what specs to look at to know which will have the better SQ and which will get louder. so im stuck asking for opinions

X2 the IDQ subs are great subs and would recommend them for someone who wants balanced sound. For some moron that wants to go down rattling his doors off ID is not for them.

i wonder if he used the Polks along with IDQ subs how it would sound. i mean since he has em, might as well use em? sounds good anyway.

If OP wants to keep small boxes, could look into those shallow subs. never heard one myself but would like to know how they compare

i dont really understand what u mean?

use 2 different subs? mixing subs is a bad idea

what shallow subs? the polk mm line is not considered a shallow sub

Think before you talk.

I don't know why OP doesn't just build something like "THE BEAST".

lol, no and no.

he questioned about getting IDQ subs to replace. 2+2=4. probably not for SQ but it is louder. i did that before with my JL's and KIckers. I also never said Polk had shallow mount. i said if he wanted more output but wants small box, to maybe look into shallow mount subs. i never heard them but i'm guessing they would work louder in smaller boxes than his Polk subs since they dont take up much internal space.
