Will i hear a difference?

I have 2 polk mm 1040 subs. the only box size any site lists and the manual is .66 cubic foot.

so i built a .65-.66 box and i love the SQ they provide but want a little more output.

everyone says box/install makes a huge difference so if i make a say .88 CF box will it be louder or lower?

theyre rated at 350rms im sending 2 of them 870rms, built box to specs, and still want a little more.

a bigger box will make it sound lower not sure about louder, prob as long as it doesnt bottom out.

The air inside acts like a spring, limiting travel to an extent, meaning with all else equal a larger box will be less of a spring and let the sub travel farther.

But Polk recommends specifically a .66 ft3 box only. Ported might not be wise if they designed it for sealed. I'd probably test it out in Bassbox pro or something so you can get a visual

and if you're still looking to keep your sq, port it low like 30hz range and the sq will be just as good as sealed with more output
Not true. Ported may not even be an option depending on the drivers T/S parameters. It may be totally unsuited to another box except for sealed. OP would have to post T/S specs and someone would have to run it through WinISD or similar.

Ive never built a ported box and ive never heard one. Im guessing prefabs ****? i could try and build a ported box

on their website i dont see where it says it can use ported. and in the manual it only gives recommended sealed box sizes. says nothing about ported compatibility or what size

i'm fairly sure their designed from scratch to be small sealed optimal. LIke the old Solobarics. you don't put old solo's in a ported box, sounds like *** and distorts. i assume the same from this.

maybe you need mo power or mo subs. but i think these are for space conservative people more than spl

"Introducing the new MM1040 high performance 10" subwoofer. Use it in a sealed or ported enclosure. As a result of 3 years of Polk research and development, the new MM systems have been designed to offer unparalleled sound quality with exceptional fit to meet virtually any application" from the polk website. so unless they're different subs they can be used ported

the ported box is "tuned" to a specific freq response. Thereforem, the sub will most likely get louder the closer you get to that tuned freq. That BUMP BOOM BOOM your hear from across the block.. But not always a benefit. You can still get that from a sealed box. With adjustments. If you concerned with the subs performance, than just built it like it says. Obviously it was made to be in small spaces. Or you could try getting a sub that is designed for wider range of applications.
