Clarion DXZ385USB. I know its an older model so I was wondering if it would support an iPhone 4s
if it could play tracks then shouldn't it charge it too? Most likely not enough to charge it, but it should play the tracks from it easily enough.
USB is ALWAYS 5v.I believe Apple changed from 5v to 12v to charge their phones/iPod after the 3GS. There is a Scosche Passport adapter that will allow you to charge newer devices.
No it isnt. There is a reason that newer phones cant be charged by some headunits. Its because they switched from 12v to a 5v solution. The Scosche Passport combats this exact issue. After the iPod Touch 2nd gen is when this adapter is required.USB is ALWAYS 5v.

No, USB spec is *always* 5v. Look it up, USB spec does however have a difference between 1A and 2.1A however. A new spec is in the works for higher powered devic, ut its still 5V, just highered amperage. The reason HUs cannot charge some units is the 1A-2.1A gap or they do not have enough amperage to even deliver 1A fullNo it isnt.
