i have a 12" mach 5 ixl just got on saturday so its still being broken in, and im slowly putting up the gain a bit each day and i notice that when i put the hu volume higher i hear a popping noise from the sub on a bass note, im thinking that its a air leak as i feel some air out the side of the sub (might not be in all the way) could that be causing that popping noise?

def not over powering the sub underpowering actually //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

alright well i gotta make a new box for the sub already

not a good tuning. so maybe that will help

thats what im thinking the box is crap, its

about 2.1ish cubes at 36.5 hz from the re site.

shop i bough the sub from said to do a box

2cubes @38hz so maybe i should do that unless

other people have some thoughts on a box size

your not far off from the required box really. after displacement you should be at 2.1 ish and as far as the tuning im not sure how much difference it wouold be from 36.5 to 38. cant see the box you have being off so much as to make the sub bottom out.

it has to be the box unless the ixl doesnt bump anywheree near to what a type r does. i know the r should get way louder correct? but i had my type r off 4-500rms 2ohm, and it got quite loud and pounded quite hard aswell i was very pleased and i was told to check out a ixl and i did and bought one and the guy i bought it from tuned everything for me after i came back with my box i built for it and it just wasnt as good as the r it hit the bass notes alot better and faster but not fully satisfied and its about 7-800rms at 1 ohm so i unno :S

your probably around 38-40hz tuning after the displacment anyway.

Recommended by MACH 5 is 2.5cubes after dis at 33HZ. So your tuned high...

Is it a single note, or any loud bass punches?

Sounds like loose speaker wire or undersized speaker wire, the Deck Clipping or the amp clipping.

What are your system specs?

its more when its a note i thinkid have to bump it to remember haha.

doubt its loose speaker wire, i have 10ga from amp to box about 2 inches in length.

then the wire inside is like 10 or 12ga monster wire used the same with my r. and its solderd

to the terminal cup. pretty sure its the amp clipping when i turn gain up and its barely even up.

what specs of my system do you wanna know james?

ive resorted to turning gain all the way down and using bass boost on amp and i get no clipping so thats workin for me till i make a new box this weekend.

Can you take a video of the sound?

also try this, take a 30HZ test tone recorded at 0db, turn bass boost off, turn gain all the way down to start. Turn HU volume to ~56 (most pioneers go to 62) Set the sub volume at 0. Turn all HU EQ's off and make sure Sound Retriever is turned off as well.

If you have a DMM, measure the ohms the amp is seeing (Make sure to touch leads together first and minus that # from the sub reading) Im assuming your running it at 1ohm. So Measuring AC volts turn the gain up tell its putting out ~28-31volts

Other wise just turn the gain up and see if it is making the noise

i could but it would be from my phone so that would probably be pointless?

i will try that later today tho thanks. also im gonna be

making a new box this weekend for the sub too.
