As I'm looking into widescreen information, I have a few questions.

1) I have widescreen DVD's at the 2.35:1 ratio. All TV's I see so far only support 1.77:1 (16:9) ratio. Will there still be black bars at the top?

2) Are there TV's that have a true 2.35 ratio?

3) Well, thats all for a min until this is discussed more.

You will still see black bars if you have 2.35:1 movies

Yes you'll have bars, thinner than on a 4:3 TV. Movies are filmed in panavision, cinevision, ect....

i cant answer any of your questions, but i hate those black bars on my widescreen...

Why have a widescreen TV if you still get black bars? Thats annoying.

4) Are there TV's that have a feature that will show the movie without the black bars? If so, what is the feature called?

Edit: I see some TV's with this

"16:9 widescreen aspect ratio with variable aspect ratio control; 3-2 inverse pulldown with auto bad edit correction for accurate reproduction of film-based sources."

Is that this feature? If not, what is this referring too?

Yeah..It's called zoom or something.

My tv has ZOOM, standard, zoom plus, and a few other settings....

With zoom, you lose some clarity...how big is the tv you want? If it's big enough, the bars won't matter.

most widescreens can "stretch" the image to fill the screen. since the aspect ratio is close it really isnt noticable

on my tv it is referred to as "fullscreen"

i have many options though:

fullscreen

zoom 1

zoom 2

panoramic

1:1 mode

i believe the black bars is for you get the full image to make sure it doesnt get cut off.

doesnt botherme too much. if it really bothers you buy a bigger tv lol

Well, browsing through some Toshiba TV's, I came accross a feature called Auto Aspect Detection.

"Auto Aspect Detection is a convenient feature that senses when an interlaced DVD player is sending a 16:9 signal, and automatically sets the TV to the correct picture size mode."
