Anyone have speculation as to why so many people find bass to be much more offensive than a loud Harley Davidson, or a vehicle with a modified muffler?

I can think of one type of muffler on some certain cars that is more annoying than bass ...

But to answer your question ... I don't know. I just wanted to get my comment in there.

Nope that is what i do not understand. Like when u get an noise ticket is says disturbing the peace then the words loud music in paranthesis. I mean those fukin harley's are loud has hell too.

i THINK there are certain levels of db certain things cannot reach, music is one, exhaust is another, but id rather hear a harley than sheet metal slappin each other.....atleast thats what everyone around here has....i like bass dont get me wrong but noone around orlando does it right.

Some exhausts sound good and are generally accepted by the public. No bass is accepted though. I do know many people who think BOTH are offensive/annoying...namely, my parents.

Many moons ago, when noise pollution tickets came about here in the communist wealth. I argued my way out of one using db readings from a Harley from the Local PD department.
