why only 2volt preouts? (IVA-D310)

I've had my alpine iva-d310 for a few months now. i really like it, works really well, but my main gripe about it is the 2volt preouts. I upgrade amps recently from a 500/1 to a 1000/1 and found myslef needing to turn up the gain more than i really want to. Now, because i turned up my gain higher than normal, i'm hearing a small amount of alternator whine when my system is on mute or if the volume is on 0.

basically, what i'm asking is why did they choose to have a 2v preout on this head unit? i thought this was a higher end unit? even crap you buy at walmart called "durabrand" cd players have 4v preouts!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

cause alpine is a bunch of posers, most of thier HUs only have 2v Preouts. There is a nice improvment going from 2 to 4,5 etc
Not really. To get anwhere near those kind of voltages you'll have to be @ or near full volume with 0dB material, and that's to maintain those voltages constantly. Otherwise daily, with music. You'll be more than likely around .7-1.2v.

I wouldn't buy a D310 and care much about what voltage preouts it had.

It's all about the optical/toslink out. My H701 handles the rest. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm pretty sure the folks over at Alpine are bankin' on their customers buying an external processor with a DVD in-dash...

I have the IVA-D310 and was a little bit concerend about the 2 volt pre-outs. I went with balanced cables on my 2 Zapco amps and have the gain all the way down. I also added a AudioControl Epicenter to my sub amp (Viper 2500.1) and the gain is not even half way. Plus, I love the how the Epicenter helps out the SQ of the subs.

All with no whine.
