Why not?

As I stated before, this is a problem between the shops and the manufacturers. We as consumers shouldn't feel guilty for searching for the best deal. End of story.
Once again, walmart is just an example. Obviously I don't expect a shop to be like walmart and sell billions of dollars of products a year. But here's some simple math:

A shop buys an amp for $400 from the manufacturer.

They mark it up 100% to $800 and only sell 4 a year. That's $1600 in profit.

Now they mark it up to only 50% and sell 10 a year since the cost to the consumer is less (and more likely closer to online prices). Thats $2000 in profit.
I've never been to a shop where I wasn't able to negotiate the price down by at least 25%.

The problem is you can find the same amp on-line for less than or equal to what the dealer paid for it. How can they compete with that? The benefits of a local dealer/warranty only work on some buyers.....many of them only care about price.

To the original topic;

1) I buy at an authorized dealer when I can. Only items I've bought on-line were used/discontinued or not available locally.

2) I prefer to install it myself because 1) it saves //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif and 2) I know it's done my way and done correctly.

1) My local shop sells 12" L7's for $400 each. Then tried to push a "1200 watt Sony amp" on me for $400. 'Nuff said.

2) Pride, satisfaction, money, and to know it was done right.

I stated that as a problem as well in my original post. This is something thats between the manufacturer and the shops themselves.

I would get into it some more, but I want this thread to stay on topic. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I

The only input I have is I wish more of you could walk through my doors because I now it would surprise the crap out of 75% of on pricing. Most of our business is cash and carry.

Anyway this all comes from a Maxxsonics Team mate. Maxxsonics has got to be the most horrored out product on the market now. Any dealer in their right mind would not touch the line. Yes I sell some of the Maxxs products but very little. They preach about "protecting" their line and keeping it off the interent. Serious you can not do a search on ebay without a Hifonics amp coming up in the search.

Sorry just throwing out my input.

Authorized dealers go thru a middleman that marks the price up for them. More than one dealer told me he can get stuff online for less than he pays his distributor. Maybe the manufacturers should learn lessons from walmart on how to cut costs and be more efficient.

Unfortunately, I have also had a few bad experiences at having stuff installed. Added to the fact that most stuff I want, the local places don't have is why I shop online and do as much of the install as I can.

I have owned a few Maxxsonics produts and never had any problems with them.

1. local shop wanted 300 bucks for polk momo mmc 6500 's , online I got them BNIB for 150 shipped to my door

2. they charge way to much money and don't care for the details like i do

I will buy my DD 3512's from the shop though, because DD won't sell them directly to me because I have a dealer within 20 miles of me.
