Why is this happening?

Been using Polk db6501 components in my girlfriends ride for a while.. running off 100w rms x2 amp, set with dmm. and crossed at 100hz on the hpf. One completely blew.. it sounded great until out of nowhere it started making distorted noises, and the volume was at a casual listening level when it happened.

We got a replacement from the store... which said this would be the last replacement they will do. Well, the replacement is fine but now the right side just stopped.. no scratching noises when pushing on the cone, etc. If you push on the cone it will work again... but you have to hold the cone down?

Bad speakers, bad install? Too much power?

pull the speaker out and check the tinsel leads, sounds like one is broken.
Definitely is but it's **** near impossible to repair on this speaker without ripping the cone off. I'm just going to buy her some new 6.5"s off wooferset. or something. They have some CDT's for pretty cheap.

Do I need to remind you there are 2 CDT dealers on this forum? We can give good deals, too, with the factory warranty.

Always forgetting that... pm a price on some cdt woofers that can handle 100w rms @ 80-100hz.. I'm also looking for some tweeters and another pair of 6.5" speakers.. pretty much the cheapest ones that will handle the power pretty well. On a budget right now.

Polk hasn't been good since the 80's IMO. Probably shoddy build quality, typical Chinese sweatshop quality control, and optimistic power rating.

Grab yourself a pair of those Exodus Anarchy woofers they're pretty beast. If DIYCable has no more I think a member or two here bought extras that they were selling.

I got back to you. Thanks.
